Can you recall driving a car along a route you have undertaken many times, when suddenly you realise you weren’t aware of the last part of the journey? Or have you ever been so engrossed in a book or film that you had not realised how much time had elapsed?
These are examples of naturally occurring ‘trance’ and, through simple guided relaxation techniques, you can reach this level of relaxation in the sessions that are used for the hypnotic process. You remain awake and in control. It’s a very relaxing and enjoyable experience.
In this state of trance your subconscious mind becomes more receptive to beneficial suggestions, accepting directions to promote positive change.
Brain waves change during this process, so we become more focused, relaxed and able to make decisions easier. As a client, you need to want the change to happen and be willing to undertake a course of sessions, thereby working with me to bring about that change.
As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I utilise your natural relaxed state of mind to help you reach your true potential or change a behavioural pattern or habit with hypnotherapy. I specialise in ‘solution focus hypnotherapy’ thereby focusing on solutions to problems rather than taking you back over the past.
Hypnotherapy is a natural and gentle way to treat all kinds of emotional, nervous or psychological problems. It can also be beneficial in motivating people, whether for a sporting event or to succeed in personal or business life. For instance, research into mentally rehearsing such things as playing an instrument or playing golf has found that visualisation can improve one’s performance as much as actually physically practising.
I always advise that you seek the advice of your GP where necessary. Especially if you suspect you have IBS, migraines or an ongoing physical problem that may require medical intervention. Hypnotherapy is now acknowledged within the wider medical profession as an evidenced-based therapy that can help reduce the symptoms of IBS, and sometimes alleviate those symptoms entirely. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) also lists hypnotherapy as one of the treatments to help with IBS.
An overview of some of the conditions I work with clients on is shown under Areas of Work page, but please do call and arrange an initial consultation so that we can chat through your individual situation.
